The Positive Results Center to Host Virtual Event: "Advancing Social Justice and Equity"

In partnership with Black Women Leaders of Los Angeles, the event aims to create opportunities and possibilities for BIPOC communities.

Advancing Social Justice & Equity Virtual Event LOS ANGELES - Feb. 4, 2021 - PRLog -- The Positive Results Center, one of the nation's leading organizations specializing in mental health awareness, healthy relationships, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, bullying and suicide awareness, along with Black Women Leaders of Los Angeles is hosting a 6-part virtual conversation series entitled, "Advancing Social Justice and Equity; Opportunities and Possibilities for BIPOC Communities", beginning February 18, 2021, through March 27, 2021, for Black History and Women's History Month. While vaccinations will protect our physical health, the mental health impact will be with us long after COVID-19 is under control. Millions upon millions have all seen or experienced the fears from uncertainty, the stress of isolation, loneliness, managing children at home, and the loss of a job or income. Over half of all Americans report that their mental health has suffered from stress, producing sleep loss, substance abuse and an increase in violence and murders of Black people. Depression has quadrupled. Black and Hispanic Americans have seen even worse mental health problems, due to structural racism, COVID-19 coronavirus, and other biases. "We are experiencing three pandemics: The Coronavirus, the violence and murders of Black people, and domestic violence against women, girls, and children," said Kandee Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Positive Results Center and Founder of Black Women Leaders of Los Angeles. "Our goal is to collectively strategize solutions for injustice and its impact on BIPOC communities while developing a blueprint for violence prevention and poverty elimination." The audience for this event includes young adults, parents, educators, advocates, nonprofits, faith leaders, health care, mental health, law enforcement, government, elected officials, and corporate partners. "At SoCalGas, we are committed to continuing to listen and learn from our communities so that together we can help create a better future for everyone. Now more than ever, it's important to build solidarity, equity, and empathy for all members of our community," said Trisha Muse, Director of Community Relations at SoCalGas. "We are proud to support the Positive Results Center in this effort to bring people together for conversations that matter." "L.A. Care is proud to support the Positive Results Center as it works to advance social justice and equity in Los Angeles County," said James Kyle, MD, L.A. Care Medical Director for Quality, Equity, and Inclusion. "The center's work helps ensure that the communities L.A. Care serves are given the tools needed to address the social challenges they may face." "The path of reimagining and creating a more just and equitable Los Angeles County for everyone, not just a few, could not be done without the support of dedicated, passionate, and persistent advocates – such as those participating in Positive Results Center's Advancing Social Justice and Equity virtual series," said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis. "We are also able to be more imaginative through knowledge, and that is exactly what this opportunity offers." "As a long-time partner, Kaiser Permanente is proud to support The Positive Results Center's work to bring social justice conversations to the fore. Building a healthier, more equitable future requires that we honestly address structural racism in our communities and the associated traumas imposed on people of color," said Margie Harrier, RN, senior vice president, and area manager, Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.
